Here is another visual from our project in Sussex Here is another visual from our project in Sussex that will convert disused agricultural sheds into a new live/work scheme. Pictured here is the chicken shed that will repair the ecology and become a new low energy home office.
Our Realm Park project has won 2nd place in @critt Our Realm Park project has won 2nd place in @crittall_windows_uk and @lightfootwindows House of the Year competition! Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the renovated residence now has panoramic views of the gardens and landscape, flooding the kitchen and living spaces with natural light.

We will be sharing more details and photographs of the project later this Spring.
Our new project in Camberwell, South London, will Our new project in Camberwell, South London, will provide two new homes on a gap site which has been left empty since bomb damage in 1941.

We were faced with the challenge of designing homes that are a contemporary addition to the neighbourhood whilst being respectful to the historic streetscape. Our proposal follows existing datums and mirrors the generous proportions of neighbouring windows, whilst reinterpreting the classic bay window and dormer into a more simple geometric style which makes for great spaces inside and a calm yet bold addition to the street.
At burgess architects, we are always interested in At burgess architects, we are always interested in accenting traditional features within contemporary settings. The renovated fireplace opening at Book House boldly frames a log burner, giving this classic item new character.

Whilst not as efficient as modern low temperature heating systems like underfloor heating, new log burner models lose less heat and burn cleaner than their older predecessors while adding character to a room.
It’s one year since burgess architects won an in It’s one year since burgess architects won an invited competition to design a new youth and community centre for a beautiful small town in Oxfordshire.

The proposed site is bounded by a designated conservation area and nature reserve. The building must strike a balance between having a unique recognisable character while sitting comfortably in its sensitive site. More on the developed design to follow.

We have just wrapped up the first phase of the design for a new live/work scheme in Sussex. We are converting cluster of disused agricultural sheds into a new live/work space for a local family. The scheme maintains the buildings’ original character whilst the clearing of sheds which are beyond repair will make way for an extensive rewilding programme, bringing back a rich ecology.
Boring is well underway at @bellhousedulwich! Pict Boring is well underway at @bellhousedulwich! Pictured above is the drilling of boreholes which will contain nearly three kilometres of water pipes. Coupled with a Ground Source Heat Exchanger, these will reduce the primary energy demand of the house by 40% - one of the many sustainable design considerations that will be implemented for this Grade II listed building. See our story for more detail of the work on site!
Our third project we completed this year was a ren Our third project we completed this year was a renovation and extension of a South London home that featured many bespoke details including a dramatic new staircase that allows light to pour through all floors of the house. Here we look back at construction and the installation of the staircase's hand-carved handrail. We look forward to sharing the photographs of the finished project with you in the spring!
Over the summer, we wrapped up this side-return ex Over the summer, we wrapped up this side-return extension in South London for a couple who wished to transform their tiny kitchen into a spacious area for eating and entertaining. One of our clients was a jeweller, and presented us with these beautiful handmade pins during the handover.
As 2020 draws to a close, we are looking back on s As 2020 draws to a close, we are looking back on some of our highlights over the past year. First up is a photograph of a now-completed new build in Horsham. A dramatic roof constructed with handmade clay tiles and a stained glass window are just some of the house’s unique features. We can’t wait to photograph the project in its new landscaping in the spring!
Client satisfaction is our ultimate measure of suc Client satisfaction is our ultimate measure of success and we are excited to share this great feedback from our friends at @bellhousedulwich. Here are more images from our ongoing work designing their learning spaces and facilities: a sketch and a perspective from one of our models showing the exterior of the new pottery and craft studio.
A corner window detail in our recently completed A A corner window detail in our recently completed Aspley project gives this kitchen renovation a contemporary edge while the frameless glass makes the corner disappear and blurs the boundary between inside and outside. You almost feel like you are in the garden when you are doing the washing up!
